Tonight, the 2026 World Cup match schedule (Kyiv time) features three Round of 32 clashes — and the centrepiece, Portugal vs Croatia, promises a true star-studded evening: Cristiano Ronaldo against Luka Modrić, two veterans with a combined age of over 76, both still capable of deciding a match. Missing this night means missing one of the tournament's most high-profile duels.
Tonight's Schedule
- 22:00 Kyiv time. Spain vs Austria (Round of 32, SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California)
- 02:00 Kyiv time (July 3). Portugal vs Croatia (Round of 32, BMO Field, Toronto, Canada)
- 06:00 Kyiv time (July 3). Switzerland vs Algeria (Round of 32, BC Place, Vancouver, Canada)
Spain vs Austria | 22:00 Kyiv Time
What's at stake: Spain topped Group H, while Austria finished second in Group J, which was led by Argentina. The winner advances to the Round of 16 and will await the winner of the Portugal–Croatia tie.
Form and personnel: Spain went through the group stage unbeaten and impressed with a solid defence. Austria, meanwhile, have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 12 World Cup matches — a worrying statistic ahead of facing La Roja. Lamine Yamal has returned from injury and is ready to play.
One to watch: Yamal against Austria's left flank is the key duel. If Spain unlock their attacking potential, the match could be decided early.
Portugal vs Croatia | 02:00 Kyiv Time (July 3)
What's at stake: Portugal won Group K, while Croatia reached the Round of 32 as runners-up in Group L (where England finished first). The winner will face whoever comes through Spain vs Austria. For both sides, this is a match with a direct path into the quarter-final bracket.
Form and personnel: Portugal were not flawless in attack during the group stage, but they have squad depth: Ronaldo is expected to start, with João Félix and Rafael Leão ready to change the game from the bench. Croatia have Luka Modrić (39) and Mateo Kovačić in midfield, with Ivan Perišić expected on the left wing. No injuries have been reported for either side.
One to watch: The Ronaldo–Modrić duel goes beyond an ordinary match: both players could be playing their final World Cup game. Bruno Fernandes as playmaker against Croatia's press is the tactical axis that will set the tempo. Portugal have the edge in squad depth, but Croatia have surprised at tournaments of this level before.
Switzerland vs Algeria | 06:00 Kyiv Time (July 3)
What's at stake: Switzerland topped Group B (7 points), while Algeria advanced from Group J as one of the best third-placed teams — after losing to Argentina (0:3), the Algerians regrouped and made it to the knockout stage. The winner enters the Round of 16 on the opposite side of the bracket from Spain and Portugal.
One to watch: Granit Xhaka and Remo Freuler in Switzerland's midfield against Algeria's press — a match where discipline will matter more than individual brilliance. Algeria play openly and create chances, but leave space in behind their defence.
