The headline result of the evening on the WC 2026 match schedule by Kyiv time: England overturned a deficit and defeated DR Congo 2:1 in the Round of 32 — thanks to a Harry Kane brace in the final 15 minutes. The match kicked off at 19:00 Kyiv time at Atlanta Stadium and went the full 90 minutes.
England vs DR Congo 2:1
Congo opened the scoring as early as the 7th minute: Bryan Sipenga converted a pass from Chancel Mbemba and beat Jordan Pickford at the near post. England pressed throughout the match, but goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi kept out shots from Bellingham, Rashford and Kane one after another. The Lions went into half-time trailing 0:1 — for the first time in their World Cup history they went on to win from that position.
The turning point came after Tuchel's substitutions: Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka came on after the 60th minute. In the 75th minute Gordon delivered a cross and Kane headed home to level — 1:1. In the 86th minute England's captain received a second assist from Gordon and fired a powerful shot into the net — 2:1. It was Kane's 13th World Cup goal: he surpassed Pelé (12 goals) in the all-time rankings.
Congo left the tournament with their heads held high: Mpasi produced one of the best individual performances of the evening, while Yoan Wissa struck the post in the first half. For DR Congo, it was their first-ever knockout-stage match at a World Cup.
