Germany Thrash Curaçao 7:1 in Group E Opener

All News from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Mundial Today

The first evening match of the fourth day of the 2026 World Cup ended with a sensationally high scoreline: Germany dismantled debutants Curaçao 7:1 at the stadium in Houston. It is the most emphatic victory of the tournament so far.

Germany — Curaçao 7:1 (Group E, Houston)

The match kicked off at 20:00 Kyiv time. Nmecha opened the scoring for Germany in the first half, but Curaçao wrote their name into the history books: Levan Comenencia equalised — the island nation's first-ever goal at a World Cup. The joy was short-lived.

By half-time Germany had moved ahead 3:1: Schlotterbeck headed home a cross, and Havertz converted a penalty. After the restart Musiala extended the lead to 4:1, before Brandt and Undav pushed the score to 6:1. Havertz had the final say — with an exquisite chip into the net in the 88th minute to complete his brace. Final whistle: 7:1.

The xG figures tell the full story: Germany — 3.90, Curaçao — 0.40. Goalscorers: Nmecha, Schlotterbeck, Havertz (×2), Musiala, Brandt, Undav. Comenencia's goal was the only consolation for the islanders.

Tournament implications: The three points virtually guarantee Germany a place in the round of 32. Their next match is against Côte d'Ivoire on 20 June in Toronto. Curaçao will face Ecuador in the second round of Group E.
